Back from our LA trip which proved to be more difficult then we thought. Just about the time we got settled on the plane did we start thinking about how much we missed our little guy and how we wished we brought him with us. Those thoughts were quickly erased at the sound of a crying baby 2 rows ahead of us. Not that we cared, but we came to the realization that a 5+ flight to the west coast with Jagger would have been difficult.

It was good to get away though and enjoy a bit of the adulthood freedoms parents rarely get when they start having children. Facetime once again proved to be a savior in giving us some interaction with the little guy at the moments we missed him the most. Grandparents seemed to have the time of their lives, as they got a glimpse back to how their life once was. Though I think Little J tired them out by the end of the trip.

Glad to be home now, back to reality. There really isn’t anything better then seeing your little one for the first time after being away from them for so long. As much as I hated being away from him, those few seconds when he saw me for the first time made it all worth it in the end.

I miss this little guy already.

As we dropped him off at the grandparents house tonight, he knew we were going to be leaving him. He kicked and screamed and cried, reaching for us as grandma held him. We quickly left, and he eventually settled down from what we were told.

He definitely didn’t make our parting any easier. We’ll see him Monday though.

Going back to Cali

My wife and I will be heading out to LA tomorrow for a few days, without the little one. At first I was looking forward to our break away from the little guy, along with a much needed vaca with the wifey. This will be my second time away from him for a long period of time. Back in January I was away from him for 9 days, but he was a much different person then. It was tough, but the little person he’s become now makes it that much more harder. He’s a little man now! A little guy with a personality who I can now talk and interact with much more then I was able to when he was just 9 months old.

Though you know you’ll be back in a few days, you can’t help but feel a bit of abandonment on your part. We were actually contemplating over the past few days whether we should bring him along, but the thought of a long flight with him brought us back to reality. We’ve even gone so far as to find excuses for us not to leave. “Do you think he feels hot?” “Maybe he has a temperature.” “Maybe we should stay and do things around the house.” “Do we really have to go to LA?” “What happens if our town is invaded by martians?” All these excuses have been running through our minds, searching for any possible excuse not to leave the little guy.

I’m sure we’ll start annoying our parents (who are splitting the time watching him) the minute we land on the west coast, if not sooner. Really the only thing I look forward to is bringing him back a gift, similar to the gifts my dad brought back to me when I was a wee little boy.

I have a big deadline in the middle of September for a project I’ve been working. Between my time in NYC, being home with the J, working on my project each night until I go to sleep, my free time has become pretty sparse. I’m not complaining, just wishing I had more time to update the whole process of this fatherhood thing on this here tumblr page.
